Western Winter

Running nearly 25 miles without interruption through Chicago’s city limits, Western Avenue provides a unique perspective to understanding the North, West, and South sides. But one thing is the same no matter the neighborhood: fighting the distinctly-frigid cold toughens you. Contrasting this icy visual-vernacular are the many car dealerships outfitted with retro signage, that allude to mid-century tales of “the open road.” Shot on a crisp February weekend as coronavirus continued its spread, the city was ominously empty.
